Aaron Bergstrom

...received a BS in Anthropology in the spring of 1998 from NDSU, and is currently enrolled in in its anthropology graduate program. He has several years experience in various areas of web-design that include HTML, VRML, X3D, and other multimedia formats. Most of Aaron's multimedia knowledge is self-taught, though he has taken coursework for both Digital Media and Multimedia & Web-design.

Aaron has had several years of Web3D experience as the NDSU World Wide Web Instructional Committee's VRML artist/programmer for the Virtual Cell educational environment (Feb 1998 to Sept 2001). Aaron was also employed by NDSU's Department of Plant Sciences as the its web and online course developer (Oct. 1999 to Sept 2001). He left the position to take his current post with the NDSU Archaeology Technologies Lab.

Aaron started out in the 3D arena creating VRML97 for NDSU's Virtual Cell project using graph paper, a pencil, and WordPad around 1997. And for a while some of the models used in VCell were created this way. Aaron has is experienced in the use of several 3D authroing programs such as: CosmoWorlds, 3D Studio, and Maya. He has also used Shockwave3D, Maya Real-Time Author, and Director.

Aaron has also created a Java3D-based viewer for our DANA-WH project and I've coded 99% of the RawKee X3D exporter plug-in for Maya. I've had to learn to write HTML, Javascript/ECMAScript, PHP, Java/Java3D, VRML97, X3D, Lingo, MEL, and C++. In additon, Aaron does web-design, video production and DVD authoring.

Aaron's ATL duties include overseeing the development of the DANA 3D/multimedia viewers and the ATL website. He also coordinates ATL laser scanning operations and consults on all other ATL 3D/multimedia projects.
