In my mid-50s, I decided to return to graduate school at NDSU
in order to earn a second M.A., this time in social studies
with an anthropology emphasis. Not only have I been interested
in anthropology as a supplement to history, but I hope to use
my newly acquired skills to teach some introductory anthropology
classes at Jamestown College (probably beginning in academic
year 2003-04) and to serve as the co-director of the ongoing
summer excavations at Fort Seward (1872-77) in Jamestown. As
a member of the Paleopathology Association, I have been interested
in physical (biological) anthropology, and have acquired some
background in cultural anthropology from my many classes in
this topic at NDSU.
Under Aaron Bergstrom, I am taking a class in 3-D Modeling
for Anthropologists at NDSU. Not only will this provide me
with the appropriate background for using this technology
in my classes as an effective teaching tool, but it is one
of my hopes to create a virtual reality "Fort Seward"
someday. Eventually I may acquire a larger personal computer
so that I can edit movies taken on my digital camcorder for
anthropological and archaeological purposes. A provisional
20-minute movie on Fort Seward and its relationship to Jamestown
should be posted on this site soon.
