Melissa
Zuroff is currently finishing her last semester at North Dakota
State University (NDSU) in Fargo, ND, and will receive a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Anthropology
in May 2002.
For
the past three years, Melissa has been gaining experience
in archaeology field and lab methodology. In July of 1999,
she attended an archaeology field school in American Samoa
under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey T. Clark where she learned
basic field techniques. From September 1999 to May 2000, Melissa
worked as a lab technician in the Archaeology Materials Laboratory
at NDSU, spending most of her time sorting shell and cataloging
pottery brought back from the previous summer's field school.
In
October of 2000, Melissa obtained a job working as a laser
scanning technician in the Archaeology Technologies Laboratory
(ATL) at NDSU. Under the direction of Dr. Clark and guidance
of Aaron Bergstrom, Computer Visualization Manager of the
ATL, she currently constructs 3D models of artifacts using
a Minolta 900 non-contact laser digitizer. Through the ATL,
Melissa has had the opportunity to learn commercial modeling
software packages such as Innovmetric
PolyWorks Modeler, Raindrop
Geomagic Studio, and Alias/Wavefront
Maya.
